Adhesive Permabond

Permabond’s Anaerobic Adhesives & Sealants range covers an extensive line of products. These include Threadlockers, Pipe Thread Sealants, FIP Form in Place Gasket Materials, and Retaining Compounds.

Anaerobic sealants will not cure without the presence of metal and a lack of oxygen. As it turns out, that is exactly what happens when an anaerobic sealant (adhesive) is sealed between a nut and a bolt on a threaded metal assembly, or between two closely fitted metal cylindrical parts. With active metal ions and no oxygen, anaerobic adhesives and sealants rapidly cure to form a tough cross-linked plastic that will bond quite well to many metals.

There are 4 basic types of anaerobic sealant adhesives, namely:

- Retaining compounds – these bond and seal cylindrical joints

- Threadlockers, which bond and seal threaded metal fasteners

- Thread sealants, which bond and seal threaded pipes and fittings

- FIP Form in place gasket materials – FIPs create a gasket directly on a part

Within each type of application, products vary by strength, temperature resistance, set speed, viscosity, and gap fill.

Permabond still manufactures the original cyanoacrylate formulation Permabond 910 (previously Eastman 910). The name 910 comes from counting to 10, as the inventor determined that the product sets in between 9 and 10 seconds.

Since that original methyl cyanoacrylate formulation, Permabond has expanded the versatility of its cyanoacrylate product line to include a tremendous number of formulations, each with unique characteristics that overcome specific design and manufacturing challenges. These include more methyl cyanoacrylates as well as ethyl cyanoacrylates and alkoxy alkyl cyanoacrylates.

Permabond cyanoacrylates are ideal for bonding materials such as metal, rubber, composite, plastic, silicone, and many other substrates. New formulations continue to eliminate design challenges encountered by engineers trying to bond difficult plastics such as polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE, and other polyolefins. Permabond’s high-performance industrial cyanoacrylate adhesives provide very fast set times, a range of viscosity choices as well as non-blooming / low odor formulations, and products with very high-temperature resistance.

Permabond two-part epoxy adhesives are suitable for bonding a wide variety of materials. They are available with a range of different cure speeds to suit, as well as offering a high standard of performance for demanding bonding applications. They are used in virtually every industry, ranging from aerospace, automotive, electronics and electric motors, all the way to food contact applications.

Permabond single-part epoxy adhesives are suitable for bonding a wide variety of materials. They are available with a range of different viscosities and with and without metal filler. Permabond epoxies have been developed to offer a high standard of performance for demanding bonding applications.
